Otoboke Beaver + Drinking Boys and Girls Choir

The all-girl, punk rock, double feature of the year. Both bands may seem youthful, but don’t let the aesthetics fool you. These are some of the most talented and seasoned musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing. All without backing tracks and performed more accurately than most technical metal bands I’ve seen (and having a lot more fun while doing it). This already incredible experience was made into a truly special one by being a combination of the final date on this tour, as well as Acco’s birthday !

Drinking Boys and Girls Choir is a three-piece punk band hailing from South Korea. The band has a great dynamic together, and their positive attitude and clear love for the punk-rock scene, makes the reprieve between songs a nice contrast to their punchy performance. Plus the alligator suit and the crowd-surfing that followed, was absolutely legendary.

I’m not the first, and I won’t be the last to discuss the mind-blowing experience that is Otoboke Beaver live. The likes of Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and Jack White (The White Stripes) have said more with their patronage than I ever could in this brief post. This Japanese quartet has become quintessential to modern punk, delivering aggressive shows, in a uniquely Japanese way. They may seem “kawaii” in photos, but be belligerent or disrespectful, and they’ll flick you off, throw you out and yell “f*** you” like any good punk rockers would.

When’s the next show because I need more of them ASAP.
